UGA appears to be adding a talented return man/wide receiver to the 2017 clas as a blueshirt. If so, Ahkil Crumpton of Los Angles Valley Community College would play in 2017 but not count against scholarship totals until 2018.

 

 
 
On Tuesday afternoon, Crumpton posted on his Twitter account that he had committed to UGA. The 5 foot 9 and 175 lbs wide receiver is from Philadelphia, PA, where he attended and graduated from Neumann Gorett High Schoolout before attending Los Angeles Valley College, received an offer from the Bulldogs back on June 5th.
 
 

 
 
Georgia is looking to replace the production they lost from phenomenal punt returner and wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie after he declared for the NFL Draft following his junior season with the Dogs last year. McKenzie, who measures 5 foot 7 and 173 lbs, had 59 punt returns for 692 yards and 5 TDs along with 16 kick returns for 373 yards and 1 TD during his three years between the hedges. That type of game changing potential in the return game is what led him to be drafted by the Denver Broncos in the fifth round at pick number 172 overall in April.
 
 

 
 
Crumpton has the potential to be just as dangerous as McKenzie. He has officially been clocked at 4.39 in the forty. That kind of speed led him to be one of the top return specialists in the JUCO ranks. This past season he returned 10 punts for 314 yards, taking three of those to the house, one for 95 yards. Crumpton also was dangerous on kickoff returns, running back 16 for 690 yards and also, three touchdowns. If I did my math right, that is a whopping average of over 43 yards per kick return and over 31 yards per punt return. Those eye popping return stats along with his production at receiver (1,554 all-purpose yards and 14 total TDS) earned Crumpton First Team JUCO All-Conference, All-State, and All-American honors.
 
 
The Dogs also lost kick returner Reggie Davis after he his finished senior season at Georgia in 2016. Over his four seasons at UGA, Davis returned 47 kickoffs for 998 yards, averaging a steady and reliable 21.2 yards per return. He also had 34 punt returns for 251 yards and a TD.
 
 
It is unclear if the Georgia coaching staff is looking for Crumpton to just return punts or kicks or get work on both special teams return units. The Bulldogs have worked junior wide receivers Terry Godwin and Jayson Stanley along with sophomore wide receivers Mecole Hardman and Tyler Simmons back on both punt and kick returns this spring. Godwin had one punt return for 10 yards during the G-Day game and Stanley had two kick returns for 56 yards for the Black Team while Hardman had two kick returns for 51 yards and Simmons also had a kick return for 24 yards. One thing to keep in mind is that during the G-Day game and in spring, returners are called down by contact or touch to reduce the risk of injury.
 
 
Crumpton is going to get the opportunity to come in this fall and compete against those four receivers for the chance to show what he can do in the return game. Here are some highlights of Crumpton putting the hurt on opponents with his athleticism and speed, which is something the Bulldog staff is hoping he will be able to do for them this year, perhaps as “The Human Joystick 2.0.”
