The 15th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs suffered a tough 9-3 loss Sunday afternoon to the 4th-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide at Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa Alabama.
The Dawgs were able to salvage three runs from seven hits. Lacey Fincher provides two of the seven hits. Ellie Armistead also had a clutch home run in the third inning to give Georgia the lead.
Lauren Mathis went four innings in the circle giving up three hits on four runs. Kylie Macy came in as relief and suffered the loss. Britton Rogers and Riley Orcutt also made an appearance in the game. Georgia used a total of four pitchers.
Armistead put Georgia on the board first with a solo home run over the wall in left field. Later Jaiden Fields scored on a sacrifice fly from Fincher to extend Georgia’s lead to 2-0.
In the bottom of the inning Alabama scored a run on two outs. Georgia came back in the fourth and added another run. A base hit from Savana Sikes scored pinch runner CJ Landrum.
In the bottom of the fourth, Alabama tied the game up at three. Macy entered the circle for the Dawgs and battled to end the inning tied at 3-3.
A huge home run in the sixth put Alabama in the lead 5-3. The Crimson Tide was able to notch four more runs in the inning to expand their lead to 9-3.
Georgia will be looking for a win Monday night to clinch the series against Alabama. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
