The University of Georgia will host the 2023 NCAA Women’s Golf Regional, the 2024 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, the 2026 NCAA Men’s Golf Regional, and the 2026 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships, the National Collegiate Athletic Association announced on Wednesday.
The NCAA made more than 450 selections of host sites across Division I, II, and III from 2023-2026. The organization received more than 3,000 bid submissions from members schools, conferences, sports commissions, and cities. The sites were selected by the respective NCAA sports committees and approved by the divisional competition oversight and championship committees.
The University of Georgia will host the 2024 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at Gabrielsen Natatorium. Gabrielsen previously hosted the women’s championships in 1999 and 2006 and was slated to do so this past March before all NCAA championships were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The venue also hosted the 2002 NCAA Men’s Championships, as well as five SEC Swimming and Diving Championships (1997, 2004, 2010, 2014, 2019).
Georgia is set to host the NCAA Tennis Championships for the 33rd time in school history. Legendary head coach Dan Magill helped make Athens and UGA the “Mecca of College Tennis.” When the NCAAs went to a team format to decide its national champion in 1977, Magill volunteered to host the tournament at Georgia, and the Athens community responded. Georgia last hosted the NCAA Championships in 2017 with close to 15,000 spectators making their way to Athens for the event.
This will be the third time Georgia women’s golf has hosted an NCAA Regional at the UGA Golf Course. Previously, Georgia hosted Regionals in 2008 and 2017. The Bulldogs were slated to host an NCAA Regional in 2020 before the tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, the UGA layout hosted national championships in 1971, 1981, 1983, 1993 and 2013.
This will also mark the third time UGA men’s golf has hosted an NCAA Regional as Athens was the site in 2012 and 2019.
In addition to the four NCAA events, Georgia will host the 2021 and 2025 SEC Equestrian Championships, the 2022 SEC Men’s Tennis Tournament, the 2023 SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the 2024 SEC Women’s Tennis Tournament, and the 2025 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships.
