The Georgia Baseball team (25-11,9-6) team split the doubleheader against the Kentucky Wildcats (24-11,6-8) at Foley Stadium on Saturday. Georgia claimed the first game 9-7 while losing the second game 1-0 and the series 2-1.
 
 
Emerson Hancock (4-2) started game one and got the win, pitching a fairly consistent game until being taken out in the sixth inning. Offensive firepower was present in this game as the teams totaled 21 hits. Kentucky scored the first run of the game in the 1st inning and the Bulldogs followed back with a run of its own when Michael Curry hit an RBI single to center field.
 
 
On the day, Tucker Bradley finished 5 for 8 on the day and got the first hit of what was an offensive onslaught of seven runs in the fourth inning. McGovern hit a three-run shot to left field and a handful of RBI singles from Talley, Biggar, and Sasser put the pressure on Kentucky with a score of 8-1.
 
 
The game seemed close to being out of reach, but Kentucky chipped away at the lead throughout the game. The Bulldogs shut down any hope for the Wildcats and completed a double play to close the game out.
 
 

 
 
The second game was dominated by solid pitching performances from both starters. C.J. Smith was outstanding for Georgia tossing a total of six innings and surrendering only a total of four hits. The team had a healthy amount of hits, but couldn’t string together the hits when they needed them going 0-10 on the night with runners in scoring position.
 
 
Despite the struggles, Georgia was in a good position in the bottom of the ninth down only one. With runners on first and second, Michael Curry hit a home run ball that skirted foul, but on the next pitch grounded out to end the game and give Kentucky the series 2-1.
 
 
“We put ourselves in a position to win a series against a top ten team in the country and we just came up a little bit short,” head coach Scott Stricklin said. “We’re a really good team and I think everyone’s starting to realize that. We’re not going anywhere, we’re going to continue to battle and fight and compete in every single weekend and every single game we play.”
 
 
The Bulldogs will return to action Tuesday, April 17th at 7 p.m. at Foley Field against the Clemson Tigers.
