After going head-to-head all night, Georgia scored five runs in the eighth to defeat Xavier 11-6 on Wednesday. The team came back and won after losing 8-7 in game one of the series. Georgia tied Xavier in the mid-week series and each team claimed a game. 
 
 

 
 
Justin Glover started for Georgia and pitched three innings before Georgia brought in Zac Kristofak. Kristofak pitched two innings before Georgia turned to Blakely Brown. After Brown, Blake Cairnes came in to close the game. He struck four batters out including the crucial second out in the top of the ninth. Cairnes was awarded the win, his first of the year.
 
 

 
 
Through four innings, the game remained scoreless. Both teams hit a slump offensively until the fifth inning. Then, the two teams exchanged leads. For every score Georgia made, Xavier answered, until Georgia’s outburst of runs in the eighth.
 
 
The Musketeers struck first in the top of the fifth inning scoring on a hit to right field. Georgia answered Xavier and took the lead on a sacrifice fly from Tucker Maxwell that brought home Trey Logan. Catcher, Michael Curry hit a 2-RBI home run to make the lead 3-2. The home run was Curry’s first of the season.
 
 
Xavier scored twice more in the sixth, taking the lead once again at 4-3. Keegan McGovern answered with a 2-RBI homerun, his first of the season and allowing Georgia to take a 5-4 lead going into the seventh.
 
 

 
 
The lead changes stopped after the seventh when the two teams tied it at six. During the bottom of the eighth, Georgia took a commanding 11-6 lead after a throwing error by Xavier’s pitcher. Aaron Schunk scored the go-ahead run for the team after a sacrifice bunt by Logan. Maxwell got hit by a pitch, leaving the bases loaded for Cam Shepherd. Keegan McGovern scored on a wild pitch for a two-run lead, leaving runners at second and third.
 
 
Xavier intentionally walked Will Campbell and soon after Michael Curry singled one to left field. The hit brought Logan and Maxwell home for the five-score lead.
 
 
Georgia returns to Foley Field on Friday as they welcome Rider for a weekend three-game series. The two teams will face-off Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
