The Georgia Baseball team (18-6,5-1) concluded its series with South Carolina (13-11,1-5) Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 victory.

The win gives Georgia its first SEC sweep since 2015 at Tennessee and its best conference start since the 2002 season. A combined shutout helped lead the Bulldogs to an impressive defensive game holding South Carolina to only four hits.

Freshman Pitcher Ryan Webb earned his first win of the season (1-1) and had a career high seven strikeouts in six scoreless innings.

“My off speed was better today, my curveball felt better,” Webb said. “I was just really trying to attack the zone and keep them off balance. My changeup was working really well today, and I have a great defense behind me, so I just let them hit the ball and let them get themselves out.”

Kevin Smith relieved Webb in the seventh inning and pitched a scoreless inning. Aaron Schunk concluded the game for the Bulldogs getting the save and finishing off a great day of pitching overall for Georgia.

Offensively the team only had three hits, a double by Michael Curry in the fourth inning drove in Keegan Mcgovern and a sacrifice fly to left field scored Curry to make the score 2-0 at the end of the fourth. The last run came in the seventh inning when Adam Sasser’s pinch runner off his double scored on another sacrifice fly to give Georgia some insurance heading into the eighth inning.

Curry’s double continued his hitting streak of ten games and Sasser’s to a nine-game hitting streak.

The Bulldogs have now won four straight series against the Gamecocks including twice when the Gamecocks were ranked inside the top ten.

“I think it says that we’ve got some experience and some maturity on this team, which we haven’t had in a while,” Stricklin said of the sweep. “It’s nice to have that, and it’s nice to have our guys believe that we’re going to win when we come out here and take the field.”

Georgia will return to action March 27th at 6 p.m. at Foley Field against Charleston Southern in Athens, Georgia.
