Georgia loses by twenty, 80-60 against Alabama on Wednesday night in a SEC showdown. It was the Bulldogs second straight loss, and frustrations rose to the surface, resulting in an ejection of Head Coach Mark Fox.
The leading scorer for the Bulldogs was Yante Maten. Despite banking 20 points on the night, Maten’s performance wasn’t enough to keep Georiga in the game. This game marked his seventh 20-point game of the season. Juwan Parker banked 10 points on the night, being the only other person to score in double-digits. Parker’s scored in double-digits in seven of the eight SEC games this season.
Georgia played catch-up the entire game to the quick-scoring Alabama team. The closest Georgia got was within 10 points, but never could close that gap. The game was physcial and there were many questionable calls from the refs. One call hit a nerve with head coach Mark Fox, the referee called carrying on Jordan Harris, and Fox lost it. Fox got ejected during the game after he received two technical fouls.

After a sluggish opening half, Georgia didn’t change much in the final half as Alabama jumped out to a 54-34 lead early. The defense stood up in the last minutes of the game, but the Dawgs offensive effort just didn’t cut it. Georgia made 38.2 percent from the field. The Dawgs were out-rebounded 40-27, which just isn’t acceptable. If Georgia rebounded more, they could have won this ball game.
“I didn’t do a good enough job getting our team ready to play,” Coach Fox said. ” I was concerned about our spirit coming into the game because of the last game. I don’t want to take anything away from Alabama, they were the aggressor, and they played well. We were a step behind all night … Let’s give Alabama credit for coming in here. They are a good team. We didn’t play with physicality on the glass, and it showed.”
Georgia returns to action on Saturday as they host Texas at 4 p.m. This game will be a part of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge.
