UGA held a dedication ceremony for their new Indoor Athletic Facility dedication ceremony yesterday afternoon on Feb. 14. Head Coach Kirby Smart, Olympian Keturah Orji, Athletic Director Greg McGarity and UGA President Jere W. Morehead each spoke about the facility and what it means to the university.
 

“We’re all grateful and appreciative of the many donors who stepped up and provided the entire funding for this facility,” Smart said. “This new indoor facility is a remarkable addition to our overall football footprint. It opens many new doors for the opportunities our student-athletes. They’ll have to practice not only in adverse weather conditions. But it also provides a first-class working environment for parts of our strength and conditioning and nutrition programs.”

 
 
The facility includes a full 100-yard long football practice field plus end zones, a 65-meter track, and jumping pits. There’s also a netting system that provides other teams the opportunity to practice when weather prevents otherwise. The Woodruff practice field will now include the indoor facility, two natural grass fields, and an outdoor artificial turf area.
 
 
The IAF is on Rutherford Street and connects to the Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall. The project cost $30.2 million and construction finished in less than a year.
