The University of Georgia equestrian team kicks off post-season competition this weekend with the Southeastern Conference Championship. The championship will be held at the UGA Equestrian Complex in Bishop, Ga. on March 25-26, where the Bulldogs will play host to Auburn, South Carolina, and Texas A&M. Georgia is the defending SEC Equestrian Champion and looks to defend the title at home. Opening Ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Friday.
 
 
As the No. 2 seed, Georgia will face the No. 3 seed Texas A&M in the semifinal round on Friday. First-seeded Auburn and the No. 4 seed South Carolina will also face off on Friday. The results of Friday will determine Saturday’s schedule as the consolation round will begin at 9:00 a.m. followed by the championship round at 1 p.m.
 
 
“We’re very excited to be hosting the SEC Championship,” said Georgia head coach Meghan Boenig. “Not only is the facility looking so beautiful and welcoming for the championship, but we have the riders performing and peaking at the right movement. The riders are feeling the sense of defending, not only our title, but our home turf. I think everyone is going to see a true preview of the national championship right here in Bishop, Ga.”
 
 
Seeding for the SEC Equestrian Championship is determined by conference winning percentage at the conclusion of a six-meet conference regular season schedule for each team, during which each squad faces every SEC foe home and away.
 
 
Georgia concluded the regular season with a 10-2 overall record, which includes a 4-2 record in SEC competition. Texas A&M finished with a 9-4 overall record and 3-3 mark in the SEC. The Bulldogs and Aggies met twice this season, with Georgia earning both wins at home (10-9) and in College Station (10-9).
 
 
This will be the fourth edition of the SEC Equestrian Championship after equestrian became the conference’s 21st sport on June 1, 2012. Georgia is the defending SEC Equestrian Champion and this marks first time the Bulldogs have hosted the SEC Equestrian Championship.
