The Georgia women’s golf team turned in an 11-over-par 299 in Tuesday’s second round of the Athens Regional of the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships at the UGA Golf Course.

 
The No. 8-ranked Bulldogs enter the final round today at 16-over-par 592 and find themselves in seventh place, 19 shots back of first place Alabama. However, Georgia doesn’t need to finish in first place to advance. The Lady Dogs are just four strokes behind Northwestern and Tennessee and a sixth place or better finish to make the “cut line” for the NCAA Championship.
 
 
“That’s golf,” head coach Josh Brewer said. “What’s good is that we’ve really had nine mediocre (individual) rounds, and we’re still right in position. With a good round tomorrow, no one cares. Our goal is to win a national championship. To win a national title, yes you have a to get there, but you have to put up a score under some duress. Tomorrow, we have that opportunity.”
 
 
Bailey Tardy’s 1-over 73 led Georgia, which also counted a pair of 75s from Jillian Hollis and Rinko Mitsunaga and a 76, the score notched by both Harang Lee and Mary Ellen Shuman.
 
 
Tuesday marked just the fourth time in 25 team rounds that at least one Bulldog posted a par-or-better individual round.
 
 
The back half of the UGA layout was particularly unkind. The Bulldogs turned at 1-over but posted only three birdies on the back nine. All three of those were from Lee and Shuman, meaning one of those birdies technically didn’t count in the Bulldogs’ team score.
 
 
No. 3 Alabama moved atop the team leaderboard with a 4-under 284 that pushed the Crimson Tide to 3-under through 36 holes. No. 19 Baylor is five shots back at 578, followed by Michigan State at 581, Clemson at 586, No. 11 Northwestern and Tennessee both at 588, the Bulldogs at 592, No. 14 Arizona at 595, Augusta at 596, North Carolina at 599, and Princeton, Auburn and No. 25 UCF all at 602.
 
 
Wake Forest’s Jennifer Kupcho remained atop the individual leaderboard after shooting 2-under 70 on Tuesday. She is at 6-under 138, a shot better than Alabama’s Lauren Stephenson.
 
 
For Georgia, Hollis is tied for 13th at 145, Tardy is tied for 20th at 146, Mitsunaga is tied for 34th at 149 and Lee and Shuman are tied for 46th at 152.
 
 
Georgia will be paired with Arizona and Augusta for Wednesday’s final round, teeing off between 7:30-8:09 from No. 1. The Bulldogs should be turning around 9:45-10:00. Admission is free.
 
 
“I like that we tee off first,” Brewer said. “We get to get out there. It’s our turn to put up a score, and tomorrow we will. We’ve played great in the last day of every tournament this year. I’m confident we’ll go out tomorrow, play well and punch our ticket to the national championships.”
