Georgia Falls Short, Loses to Tennessee at Home

Following a 1-point lead at the half, the No. 13 Georgia Lady Dogs fell short to the #5 Tennessee Lady Vols 63-55 at Stegman Coliseum Sunday afternoon.

Graduate center Jenna Staiti led the Bulldogs in scoring with 16 points, including a 3-pointer to put the Dawgs on the board in the 1st. Graduate guard, Que Morrison also had a huge impact on today’s game with 14 points. Junior, Jordan Horston had a stellar performance for the Lady Vols putting up 19 points. Freshman guard Reigan Richardson, was also a big playmaker for Georgia today with 8 points. Richardson sank two different 3-pointers in today’s game against the Vols.

 

 

 

 

Georgia is now 15-4 (4-3 SEC) while Tennessee soars to 18-1 (7-0 SEC). The success the Lady Vols had today now puts them at a nine-game win streak.

Georgia head coach Joni Taylor gave plenty of praises to UT Coach Kellie Harper and her team today after the win. Even going to say, “they’re playing the best basketball I’ve seen Tennessee play in a long time.”

Georgia’s offense started out slow until a 3-pointer from Staiti put the Lady Dogs on the board. Defensively, both teams came out strong. The Lady Dogs ended the first quarter in the lead 16-13 with six points apiece from Que Morrison and Jenna Staiti.

The Lady Dogs were on the move during the second quarter and gained a 9 point lead with just over 4 minutes left before the half. The Lady Vols found their rhythm and scored 12 points before the half.

 

 

 

 

Georgia ended the half ahead 32-31.

The Lady Dogs lost some of their tempo during the third quarter, giving Tennessee the momentum they needed to pull ahead. The Lady Vols outscored Georgia 21-15 and clutched a 52-47 lead going into the fourth.

The Lady Dogs kept the game close through the fourth, but it wasn’t enough for a Georgia win.

Georgia had a strong start to the game, but the Lady Vols found a dose of momentum right before the half that helped propel them to a win.
