Georgia held its annual Fan Day on a day that was beautiful! Despite it being warm, the weather was perfect! There wasn’t a large crowd for the event, but I would say about 1,000-2,000 people attended. As I observed practice, these are the things that stood out to me the most.

 
I know that the wide receivers stayed in my reports all week long, but they impressed again. Matt Landers made catch after catch while dropping only one pass that I saw. Mark Webb Jr. made a few grabs as well and juked out a couple of secondary players. Javon Wims just looks big, he made a few catches, and his routes looked clean. Ahkil Crumpton stayed in the slot and made a few grabs, but his speed is impressive. Jayson Stanley caught a long touchdown pass from Tyrique McGhee which caught the crowds attention. Throughout watching practice, the fans stayed focused on the offense and got rowdy a few times.

 
The next area that stood out is the running backs. D’Andre Swift looked sharp and made a very impressive between the tackle run. He trucked Jarvis Wilson and the next handoff he bounced outside for another impressive gain. Nick Chubb looked fast on the corner and made a nice run between the tackles. He looked to be in ideal shape. Sony Michel seemed to be more in the receiver role and made a few plays. I didn’t see much of Brian Herrian, but Elijah Holyfield made a play and ran one in for about 30 yards. It was nice to see the backs getting through some tackles and make some plays.

Kirby’s goals that he mentioned in his first press conference showed today with the work on red zone offense and defense. Jacob Eason and Jake Fromm both ran through plans and made an effort to check each option before the decision. Eason seemed to be getting his throws off a little quicker. However, during the red zone drill, Eason’s accuracy fell off a tad. Fromm made an excellent effort in the red zone drill with a touchdown pass but was s00n intercepted by Keyon Brown.

The last thing I saw in practice was Kirby Smart’s passion. During one drill, Isaac Nauta missed his block and Smart lit into him. He made sure Nauta knew he messed up. Smart did this a few times with Monty Rice in the secondary too. Every time I looked, Smart was somewhere else intertwining himself in the drill. It was nice to see the head ball coach fixing things on the spot and making sure these players got the right way of doing stuff.
 
 
Fan Day 2017 was full of content, and all the position groups seemed on the right track. The level of intensity that Smart mentioned continued during Fan Day despite the day having a fun atmosphere surrounding it. Georgia continues to practice on Monday as fall camp starts week two.
