Georgia Football hosted day 14 of fall camp on Tuesday and it was a hot one. The weather stayed beautiful, but the humidity made it feel like it was over 100 degrees. However, this didn’t stop the high-intensity practice that head coach Kirby Smart likes to run. He had his squad drenched in sweat but pushed them to the edges and day 14 saw a lot of improvement from both sides of the ball. 
 

 
 
The first area I watched during practice was the linebackers. Coach Sherrer had choice words for his groups as they didn’t seem to do what he asked. After he gave them a piece of his mind, the group seemed to push harder and he approved of the effort. D’Andre Walker and Davin Bellamy received the most praise from Sherrer and pushed the other players. Lorenzo Carter worked with another unit during the time I watched, but I saw him jog by and man did he look massive. Smart told the media earlier in camp that Carter had a hard time maintaining weight, but it seems that he is keeping his bulk as of now.
 
 
A New England Patriots scout watched the linebackers closely along with the secondary. He seemed interested in both groups but floated around the entire practice.
 
 

 
 
I moved to the wide receivers next and noticed that Tyler Simmons still wore a black jersey. He ran the drills with the fellow wide-outs but wasn’t thrown to at all. The entire position group struggled with the catches from the quarterbacks today but managed to make a few good ones. Matt Landers didn’t drop a ball and Terry Godwin made some nice grabs.
 
 
However, the quarterbacks all seemed to struggle. Jacob Eason threw darts as usual but just seemed off a bit. I witnessed a few passes that looked a little behind the receiver, but what was nice to see is that he made adjustments and seemed more accurate before the media left. Jake Fromm received a groan of displeasure from Smart himself after a wild pass to Ahkil Crumpton. I didn’t see Sam Vaughn out there today, but Brice Ramsey and Stetson Bennett made a few impressive throws. Smart watched the receivers for most of the fourth period and made the comment, “Jayson Stanely I’m looking for five.” I’m not quite sure what the head ball coach meant by this, but it got Stanely’s attention and the player made a nice grab the next route he ran.
 
 

 
 
Lastly, I watched the offensive line for a good couple minutes. The first team seemed to consist of Isaiah Wynn at left tackle, Pat Allen at left guard and Lamont Gillard at center. On the other side of Gaillard was Kendall Baker at right guard and Andrew Thomas at the right tackle spot. Thomas seems to move up a rotation every time we watch the line and looks like he could be an early contributor. Isaiah Wilson stayed with the two’s today but moved to left guard instead of right tackle. Netori Johnson got in the mix of things at right guard with the two’s. Johnson’s been quiet throughout camp, so it was nice to see him compete with the older guys.
 
 
Some quick notes to round out the report, I didn’t see D’Andre Swift at practice today, but later found out from Smart that it isn’t serious. Swift should be back after Smart mentioned he had a routine check up by the medical staff. Jonathan Ledbetter returned to practice and Jeremiah Holloman was there, but off to the side again.
 
 
Day 14 proved to be a hot and intense practice, just the way Smart likes it. The offensive line continues to evolve and the linebackers got some tough love by Sherrer. However, despite the few hiccups with Swift’s absence and the undisclosed illness from Ledbetter, the day went well. In the words of the 20th-century poet-laureate O’Shea “Ice Cube” Jackson Sr., “Didn’t have to use my AK, I gotta say it was a good day.” Georgia has 17 days till their first game of the season versus App State, and after hearing some of the old school hip-hop during warm ups, I don’t think anyone but Ice Cube could have said it better.
