Today marked day six of spring practice. The media got about 10 minutes of viewing time and there were a lot of coaches and recruits out there. Here are my takeaways from each side of the ball.
Offense:
Offensive line: The offensive line rotation stayed the same once again. Andrew Thomas (LT), Kendall Baker (LG), Lamont Gaillard (C), Ben Cleveland (RG), and Isaiah Wilson (RT). While the offensive line worked combo drills, many of the younger players looked to be in good shape. Trey Hill was working with the second team on the inside at guard and Netori Johnson with the third team. The offensive line competition this spring is a sight to see as almost every lineman looks to be in tip-top shape because the competition is becoming next level. Justin Fields looks good once again making impressive throws with tight spirals.
Defense:
Like I said I did not see much on the defensive side of the ball. However, I did get a chance to look at the defensive line. The rotation I saw looks as if nothing has changed. 1st team: Jonathan Ledbetter, Julian Rochester, Tyler Clark. 2nd team: Michail Carter, DaQuan Hawkins-Muckle, David Marshall. I mainly focused on the defensive line, and Ledbetter was out there with his thumb wrapped, but seemed to be fine.
The linebackers and defensive backs were running nonstop pursuit drills as Mel Tucker operated the chaos. Walker, Taylor, and Natrez all remained working with the 1st team at the linebacker position. The 1st team defensive backs were Deandre Baker and Mark Webb with J.R. Reed and Lecounte at the safety and Tyrique McGhee at the star. Tyrique McGhee may not be the ideal size, but he’s quick as a cat and continues to get work at the star position.
Visitors at practice:
Jadon Haselwood was once again in attendance showing love to Georgia. Haselwood has been considering a handful of other schools, but remains solid to Georgia and is in Athens every time he has the chance. Other recruits in attendance were Andrew Booth and Kyle Hamilton, which are two key pieces to this recruiting puzzle and highly sought after.
The recruiting has picked up for Hamilton as he is now being primarily recruited by Kirby. Today was the last day of Georgia’s coaching clinic which is why there were hordes of onlookers at practice. There were more recruits at practice then I can list, but the ones mentioned above are the ones I know you want to hear about.
