Georgia was back to practice after having Wednesday off and was momentarily on the practice field until lightning struck and the team was moved into the IPF right as the media viewing period ended. I’ll give you guys a breakdown of what I saw from offense and defense today.

Quick Hits:

-Terry Godwin was absent from practice today. He has been dealing with a knee injury, and I don’t think it is anything serious, but he was not out there today.
-Kearis Jackson and Mark Webb were both seen on the sidelines with trainers, but I do not think it is anything to worry about.
-Divaad Wilson was also by himself and still seems to be getting comfortable with his knee.

Offensive Line:

The rotation stayed the same today; LT Andrew Thomas, LG Kendall Baker, C Lamont Gaillard, RG Ben Cleveland, RT Isaiah Wilson. The talent stockpiled at this position is beyond a luxury now and is the deepest offensive line Georgia has ever had.

Tight Ends:

Jim Chaney was keeping a close eye on the tight ends and making sure they were going full speed. Whether or not this position group gets more receptions, this season is yet to be determined, but Charlie Woerner and Isaac Nauta are both in prime position to have outstanding years.

Wide Receivers:

Best catch of the day was J.T. Dooley. Vince Dooley’s grandson made an insane one-handed grab, and Cortez Hankton yelled,”You trying to show off today!” Ahklil Crumpton is a little guy, but the man is as quick as a cat and has solid hands. Mainly excited to see if he gets an opportunity this year in the return game. Hold on y’all once Demetris Roberston gets cleared which I suspect that will be sooner rather than later Georgia will be much better on that day. He is the best receiver on the roster without question and will be a total mismatch for defenses this year once he gets comfortable playing in the offense.

Quarterbacks:

Jake Fromm and Justin Fields continue to impress me, but Fields outperformed him today regarding accuracy and velocity. I don’t think there is anything to be concerned about and I believe Fromm is the clear starter, but Fields proves every day that he can compete with Fromm at the same level.

Secondary:

Kirby will not give Richard LeCounte a break. What I mean by saying that, I heard him call his name out 20+ times giving him the definition of tough love. I think this is a good sign as Kirby sees the potential in him and knows how good he is going to be. Ameer Speed has the best hands in this position group that I have seen, and I think it has a lot to do with the fact that he is 6’3 with extreme length and big hands.

Linebackers:

Dan Lanning and Glenn Schumann are both coaches who are all about technique and physicality. They coach the players up and are keeping close attention to some of the young guys who are coming along. The most impressive from this group to me is Brenton Cox. He is the most physically ready freshman on the team and will contribute immensely come this fall.

Defensive Line:

The rotation that I saw today was
1s: Tyler Clark, David Marshall, Jonathan Ledbetter
2s: Julian Rochester, Malik Herring, Jay Hayes
3s: Michail Carter, Devonte Wyatt, Michael Barnett
I think the defensive line will be fine this year, but it is vital that Kirby gets his guys in these next two recruiting classes to stockpile talent at this position.
