Georgia went inside for day three of the Missouri week. Intensity remained high, and the staff continued to push the team to another level of difficulty. These guys are conditioned, you don’t see hands on hips or heavy breathing they’re just ready to go to the next drill. Below Steve, Hayden and I break down Wednesday’s practice takeaways. 

Savannah’s Offense Report

— The first thing I want to note is James Cook speed. They worked on through footwork drills, and when he came up, it was so fast. If I blinked, I would have missed it. Once he figures it out on all cylinders, he’s going to be hard to keep off the field.
— D’Andre Swift seemed fine during practice. He didn’t have restrictions, he ran through the drills right alongside Elijah Holyfield and didn’t seem to show any signs of injury. I had a trusted source tell me that Swift was fine and ready to go for Saturday’s game.

— Before Jim Chaney made the tight ends work on blocking he had them catch short slant routes and work on getting up the field. Isaac Nauta shined in this drill as we all saw him do a few times against Middle Tennessee State.
— Chaney keeps emphasizing blocking for the tight ends. John Fitzpatrick wore No. 81 today to mimic Albert Okwuegbunam in scout play. Chaney praised the true freshman’s blocking ability with a, “looked good Johnny boy.”

— Sam Pittman was still mad during Wednesday’s practice. He yelled and cussed and raised a lot of hell with his group. He called out Justin Shaffer and told him to “suck the air out of him!”
— Cortez Hankton had his receivers work on blocking and sideline catches before joining the quarterbacks.
— Terry Godwin looks healthy again. He was upbeat like his usual self and tried to fake out Trey Blount on a play.

— Ahkil Crumpton looked fast today and strong. He made a nice catch that almost drew him out of bounds and he managed to stop himself and stay inbounds. Afterward, when he jogged back to the line, he told Mecole Hardman, “I stopped smooth on that one.”
— Demetris Robertson will be one of the best receivers at Georgia once he gets his blocking up to speed. He’s quick, makes nice moves once he catches the ball and is incredibly fast.

— Finally, I noticed that there was a group of defensive players working on mismatch coverage and how to do it. The coaches had one of the bigger receivers go out on a route and had the defenders cover him and showed them how to avoid penalties.
 

Steve and Hayden’s Defense Report

— Ex-Bulldog Bacarri Rambo was working with Georgia’s secondary today. He’s been out there now for a while but is a great addition.
— Kirby yelled at Juwon Taylor for missing an assignment and he mouthed back at Smart. Smart replied with, “Want to be mad at somebody? Want to be mad at somebody? Be mad at Missouri!”
— The defense remains healthy as there were not any noticeable players out.
— The focus was once again on the secondary today. Not very surprising as we know Missouri is a pass-oriented offense and will challenge the Bulldogs Saturday.
— J.R. Reed wasn’t at practice today, however, not sure if it’s an injury or he had to handle something.
