Georgia began preparations for the Missouri Tigers Monday afternoon during the hottest part of the day. The Bulldogs looked all business as practice had a quiet before the storm feel. There wasn’t much yelling or screaming, just guys doing drills and getting feedback from the staff. Below I break down each side of the ball and my takeaways from Monday’s practice

Savannah’s Practice Report

— I spent the first period watching the defense. My initial observation was that they look focused. Each coach had a lesson to teach and show the groups.

— Dan Lanning’s outside linebackers worked on agility with a ball and rolling device. Lanning stayed on them, and it seemed their lesson was quick feet and hand placement.
— Glenn Schumann’s inside backers worked with the chute, and he yelled that “aggressive is good!”  He explained why exploding from the hips when they hit someone was essential. Schumann went through each step and told why it mattered.
— Georgia’s secondary worked on footwork and establishing contact. Can note that I saw Divaad Wilson practicing with the group without limitations.
— The defensive line worked on the pass rush and how to get around their defenders. Tray Scott analyzed this group closely and made adjustments to make the drill go smoother.

— Georgia’s offensive line continued their work on combo blocks. They were back in their position groups instead of working as a whole. Andrew Thomas wasn’t at practice still after suffering an ankle sprain against South Carolina.
— Jim Chaney had the tight ends continue work on blocking. Isaac Nauta won today, he had the best form and was the only player that didn’t receive criticism.
— Before the quarterbacks joined the receivers, they worked on handoffs to the running backs. D’Andre Swift practiced without any issues and Holyfield looked strong. James Cook was the third back in the drill too, he seems to be catching onto things quickly, and it seems before long he’ll be breaking through and hitting a long run.

— The receivers and quarterbacks ran through various pass routes. One of the interesting routes we saw was where a WR would get in motion toward the center and then goes back to where he was when he started the play. After that, they ran their usual hook routes, screens and other pass routes.
— Something to note with the wide receivers, both Tommy Bush and Matt Landers wore No. 84 instead of their usual numbers. Emanuel Hall wears that number for Missouri, so it seems they’re wearing that to mimic him while on the scout team. Landers did this a few times last season. This allows Georgia to see what a guy like Hall may try to do against them.
— Terry Godwin practiced without any limitations today.
— Georgia’s running backs worked on catching passes out of the backfield and some blocking drills.
— There was a Ravens scout out there as well.
