The Georgia Football team had an uptempo practice that saw the inside linebackers participate in a very interesting drill on Tuesday afternoon.
Defense
The drill the inside linebackers took place in saw them bursting through a dummy, but the interesting part of the drill was the fact that they had their hands tied. My initial thoughts are that they are wanting to put emphasis on their linebackers to keep their hands inside. It was definitely an interesting drill that we’ll be something to keep an eye on.
The defensive line seemed to be keeping the same mindset on pad level and defensive line coach Tray Scott seemed to be very pleased with his group overall. Scott made the group go through the drill in twos and each player had to have two good reps before he moved on to the next group. Every group got it right on the first try and that has to be something for Scott to be proud of with his guys.
The defensive backs were working on a drill and received some motivation from head coach Kirby Smart as he yelled at them for as he said, “Y’all are going through the motions!” The tempo was definitely up at the Bulldogs practice and the coaching staff was preaching that. Former Bulldogs inside linebacker Rennie Curran was also at practice today.
Rashad Roundtree was the only player I noticed missing from practice today.
Offense
The wide receivers were working on various catching drills and Riley Ridley made an outstanding one-handed catch during the drill. Coach James Coley was urging his guys to fight off defenders during this drill and he was yelling consistently at his guys. Coley was consistently yelling “Get his hands off you!”
Terry Godwin had a wrap on his hand, but he seemed to be working fine with it and had no limitations at all. Godwin was the only wideout who seemed to be dealing with any issues, but they did not stop him from participating.
The running backs were working on some cutting drills and Elijah Holyfield looked very impressive in his cuts as he ran through it. Overall the Bulldogs seemed to be on track for their second practice of the week.
