During Tuesday’s practice, the media was allowed to view practice for five minutes. Head coach Kirby Smart and his staff had the team preparing for the Kentucky Wildcats. They were practicing in full pads, and were running full speed. Here are some notes from practice:
Defense:
- Defensive line coach Tray Scott had his players running over dummies, and under a chute. Then they were hitting a dummy with their lead shoulder.
- Against South Carolina, the defensive line played well. But Scott was riding his players talking about how they needed to give more effort.
- He pointed out that Tyler Clark wasn’t hitting hard enough with his lead shoulder.
- Cornerback Tyson Campbell was practicing today, but he was running third in reps behind Eric Stokes and Tyrique Stevenson.
- I did not see junior inside linebacker Nate McBride at practice during the short viewing period and he was also missing during Monday’s media viewing period.
Offense:
- At first, the quarterbacks, running backs, tight ends and the offensive line were running RPOs (Run/Pass/Option) against some members of the defense.
- When the team split into position groups the quarterbacks were throwing comeback routes to the receivers.
- Stetson Bennett IV hit Trey Blount as we were leaving practice.
- Kearis Jackson was running with the first team and caught a pass from Jake Fromm.
- Lawrence Cager was not seen during the media viewing period today.
- Cade Mays was at first-string left guard, and Ben Cleveland was at first-string right guard.
- Solomon Kindley was practicing but looked limited as he is still battling an ankle injury.
- The running backs were running through the PowerBlast machine.
- Brian Herrien was back at practice today after not playing against South Carolina.
