Georgia remained inside in “The House of Payne” for Tuesday’s practice, and the intensity was high. There wasn’t a lot of yelling or anything, but the team appeared focused. Here are my observations from Tuesday’s practice.
Offense Report
— The quarterbacks and running backs worked on various pitching and handoff drills.
— Still no Kendall Baker at practice after he left the Auburn game with an injury.
— Cortez Hankton had his group working on getting separation from defenders. Then when the group joined the quarterbacks, they worked on a short catch and having the receiver follow a downfield blocker.
— Kirby Smart worked alongside the receivers during the separation drill before bouncing onto the next position.
— Jim Chaney had his group working through blocking drills as usual. Today’s message was, “Pads down guys! Low man wins.”
— The OL broke into position groups and worked through various formations that each position may see from a defending line. Sam Pittman worked with Lamont Gaillard (who looks 100 percent), Trey Hill, Ben Cleveland, and one other guy but I couldn’t see his number. Fundamentals were still the focus here.
Defense Report
— Still no David Marshall or DaQuan Hawkins-Muckle.
— Dan Lanning had the OLB’s working on a drill where they would attempt to read the “quarterback’s” eyes and try to pick off or bat down the pass. Thought this was an interesting drill.
— Tray Scott had his DL hitting tackling dummies against the wall for a drill.
— I saw Otis Reese take some reps alongside J.R. Reed, it seems he’s coming along like Smart wants him to.
