Georgia moved inside for day two of Vanderbilt week.  The usual intensity was there and like yesterday the business like buzz remained. Steve and I break down our takeaways from Tuesday’s practice.

Savannah’s Offense Report

— When the media first got out there, the team was in the middle of an 11 on 11 drill. They ran a hurry-up no huddle two-minute package. Jake Fromm and what seemed to be the first string offense go up against what appeared to be the first string defense. Fields and what looked to be the second string offense went up against the second team. There was more of a concentration with the group Fields worked with rather than the first string.

— Staff made them run multiple plays and had them go through the motions to get a feel of the different calls. Fields worked with Cook, and the back got a few handoffs that broke free.

Demetris Robertson (16)

— Cortez Hankton had his wide receivers work on sideline catches and making sure they stay in bounds. Demetris Robertson flew through this drill. He is so fast. I want to see him race Mecole Hardman. Robertson seems to have thickened up some too since arriving at campus. He looks like a solid wideout right now.

— Jim Chaney had his tight ends work through live blocking drills again. Charlie Woerner continued to get praise but did get behind on a few reps. Jackson Harris struggled, but he’s still getting back in shape.

Isaac Nauta (18) and Luke Ford (45)

— Issac Nauta got rocked by Adam Anderson during the drill, and it made Nauta furious. You could almost see the smoke coming out of his ears when they moved to the bag.

— When the group went to the bags, Chaney explained why Nauta got beat saying, “you got caught backing up there.” Well, that frustrated Nauta even more and when they took the rep, he knocked back Luke Ford who held the bag.

— Chaney told the group well specifically Nauta, “the harder you hit here, the easier it is in the live drills.” Well, Nauta didn’t hit the bag hard enough the next time, and Chaney exploded on him.  Chaney told him to get his tail back there and, “you need to figure it out, Nauta.”  This attitude from Nauta was interesting to me because Nauta usually doesn’t get the negative comments.

Steve’s Defense Report

-Saw Kirby working personally with Devonte Wyatt. He’s starting to get more and more snaps as the season rolls along.
-I’m also impressed with Jordan Davis. I said earlier in the year I thought he would redshirt and that’s no longer the case. He should start traveling with the team now, and I can see him getting decent playing time sooner rather than later.
Divaad Wilson (16)

-Divaad Wilson is planting all his weight into his knee that he injured in the spring. I can’t even tell that he had an injury except for seeing the knee brace. Interested to see when he will see the field for the first time.
-Richard LeCounte got his left hand wrapped on the sideline but went right back into practice unaffected. It isn’t anything serious, and he continued practicing.
Mel Tucker

-Mel Tucker was more animated today making sure players focus on their fundamentals.
