Intensity was up at practice again today and the defensive coaches were stressing pad level to their players, especially defensive line coach Tray Scott.

 
Scott constantly yelled three things at the defensive line group as they went to work and they were “Work the block!”, “Burst”, and “Keep your pads down!” Scott told this to the defensive line multiple times and because of the sheer importance of pad level when it comes to the battle in the trenches, it is understandable as to why he stressed this so much.
 
 
Trenton Thompson was still missing from the defensive line today and it is not a huge surprise as he is still recovering from a sprained MCL. Thompson has already been ruled out for this weekend’s contest against Vanderbilt and I believe the staff is just hoping to have him back before they face Florida. Reggie Carter was also missing from practice today and he has not been out there all week.
 
 
The inside linebackers were working on keeping their bodies low as well, while the outside linebackers seemed to be working on getting around the edge while keeping their pad level low. At the end of the media’s open period, the outside linebackers split up and only Lorenzo Carter, Davin Bellamy, D’Andre Walker, and Walter Grant stayed back. I believe these will be the four outside linebackers making the trip to Nashville. Also, Bellamy is still wearing the club on his hand and will most likely play this weekend’s game with it.
 
 
The secondary was manned by defensive coordinator Mel Tucker and he was demanding perfection from his players. This became most evident when he made Mark Webb go back and do a drill over because I was not pleased with how he did it the first time. Tucker also worked with the secondary on defending and catching the deep ball and there was some improvement there as not a single ball was dropped by the defensive backs.
 
 
One interesting note is that there was a Jacksonville Jaguars scout at practice today and he seemed to have his focus on the outside linebackers.
 
 
The Bulldogs have practiced with intensity all week and if they can bring that same intensity on Saturday, then they should have no problems with walking away with a win.
