With the Georgia offense and defense both being burdened with consistent injuries, many true freshmen have had the opportunity to see the field quite a bit. A few have even made big names for themselves.

Standing at 6-foot-6, 320 pounds, Jordan Davis is a force to be reckoned with. The true freshman defensive lineman is skilled at holding the point of attack and defending against two players at once. Another true freshman Cade Mays is a 6-foot-6, 315-pound wall who plays on the other side of the ball. He has played in all 10 games thus far and has made fans, journalists and analysists alike know his name. He has started in over half of the games and excelled at three different positions: guard, left tackle and lineman.

Prather Hudson commented on the freshmen’s ability to step up in an injury situation specifically on the line.

“Obviously our line has been banged up consistently. True freshmen have come in and balled out. It is next man up mentality,” he said. “I think that everybody is prepared for that role if it ever happens. I think we have done a really good job with that.”

Thirteen true freshmen assisted in the victory over Auburn last Saturday including Luke Ford. Ford was ranked as the number three tight end nationally in his recruiting class. He has played in eight games this season with his highlight play occurring against Austin Peay. In that game he caught his first pass for four yards.

Veteran tight end Jackson Harris spoke about his younger teammates’ progress.

“In our room, we have Luke Ford. He has done a great job. He has been working hard, really coming along, picking up the playbook,” he said. “All those guys are doing what freshmen are supposed to: work hard, get better every day and wait for their time to come.”

Twenty-one members of the 2018 recruiting class have made an impact on the field with five starting in games this season. They have greatly contributed to the success of the team and will be key players when Georgia takes on Alabama in the SEC Championship.
