Georgia had a rough go of it in the quarterfinals of the SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament on Friday, losing to top-seed South Carolina 72-48.

 
 
The Lady Bulldogs didn’t have an answer for the No. 5 team in the nation and the favored No. 1 seed South Carolina Gamecocks in round 3 of the 2017 SEC Tourney at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, SC. The Gamecocks shot 44 % from the floor and smothered Georgia defensively, holding them to just 28 %. If there was a silver lining in the loss, the Bulldogs out-rebounded Carolina 40-36, but it just wasn’t enough.
 
 
All-SEC second team recipient Pachis Roberts put up a team-high 15 points, her fifth straight double-digit performance. The redshirt senior guard/forward has averaged a team-best 14.5 points per game this season. Sophomore forward Caliya Robinson added 12 points and pulled in eight rebounds. On the glass, senior Halle Washington grabbed team-high nine rebounds.
 
 
The Lady Bulldogs held an early edge in the first quarter before the Gamecocks went on an 8-0 run and closed out the quarter leading 17-7. The Conference’s highest scoring offense continued to produce in the second quarter as South Carolina outscored Georgia by 16 points to head into the break up 42-16.
 
 
The second half looked more of the same with Georgia unable to chip away at its deficit. The Lady Bulldogs outscored the Gamecocks in the final quarter 21-16.
 
 
Georgia’s second round win over the Auburn Tigers gave Taylor her first career SEC Tourney win as a head coach. She took the helm of the Lady Bulldog basketball program before the 2015-16 season and owns a 37-25 record, including a 2016 NCAA Tournament appearance.
