The 10th-ranked Georgia gymnastics team will compete as the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Regional (Cal Berkeley) on April 4, it was announced Monday.
Joining the Gymdogs in order of seeding will be Utah, Boise State, host Cal, Utah State and Brigham Young. The six teams along with individual competitors will compete at Cal’s Haas Pavilion Saturday, April 4 at 9 p.m. ET.
The individual all-around competitors include San Jose State’s Cami Guyer, Kaitlin Won and Maddie Herr; Utah State’s Tiana Montell and M’rcy Matsunami of Alaska-Anchorage. The individual event specialists are UC Davis’ Katy Nogaki (vault), Dani Judal (beam) and Kala DeFrancesco (floor) and Sacramento State’s Cassie Benning (bars).
Cal is one of six regional hosts along with Auburn, Iowa State, Ohio State, Oklahoma and West Virginia. The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors who are not on an advancing team from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Fort Worth, Texas, April 17-19. In addition, the event winners at the regional championships will advance to the national championships in that event only if they are not part of a qualifying team or the all-around qualifiers.
“We are excited to be heading out west for the regional this year,” said head coach Danna Durante. “It’s going to be a great competition with five other teams. This is the time of year when we need to be at our best, so that is what we are working toward.”
Georgia’s rotation for the regional will be: bye, bars, beam, bye, floor, vault.
