Forty-six University of Georgia student-athletes will volunteer for Special Olympics Prom this Thursday from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Clarke Central High School. Special Olympics at UGA organizes the prom each year to celebrate Athens-Clarke County students who participate in the Athens Special Olympics.

“Special Olympics Prom is such an incredible opportunity for student-athletes,” said Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) co-President Gunnar Bentz. “Working with these kids gives them a feeling of excitement and joy that is contagious and fulfilling.”

This year’s theme is “Welcome to the Jungle.” UGA student-athletes will escort Special Olympic athletes down the red carpet as their name is announced. In addition to dancing and music, the event will include a pie-in-the-face of UGA student-athlete volunteers. Proceeds from the pie-in-the-face will go towards Special Olympics in Athens-Clarke County.

“Special Olympics Prom is an event that SAAC members are excited about every year,” said SAAC co-President Summer Burnett. “The kids always have a fun time walking on the red carpet with a student-athlete as their escort.”
