In his Thursday press conference after Georgia’s practice, Head Coach Kirby Smart stated that kicker Mitchell Wasson was no longer with the team.

 
 
Wasson was a class of 2016 preferred walk-on signee for the Bulldogs in Smart’s first recruiting class as Head Coach of Georgia. The kicker from Lassiter High School out of Roswell, GA had been committed to Alabama before choosing to flip his commitment to UGA. Wasson redshirted last season as the placekicking duties came down to Rodrigo Blankenship and William Ham, but Ham announced his decision to transfer after the season was over. So with both Ham and Wasson now gone, who is kicking for the Bulldogs this spring?
 
 
Preferred walk-on redshirt sophomore Rodrigo Blankenship came into spring as the main placekicker, but Coach Smart said on more than one occasion that all positions were up for grabs and open to competition. With Ham and Wasson off the roster, that leaves junior walk-on kicker Tanner Stumpe to compete and help out with kicking duties this spring. Stumpe has been with the Dogs since 2014, mainly seeing work on the scout team. Of course, that means that Georgia could ill afford an injury here.
 
 
Good news is that help is coming this fall with 2017 preferred walk-on signee Brooks Buce from Greater Atlanta Christian out of Norcross, GA and David Marvin, a graduate transfer from Wofford. Both Buce and Marvin will compete with Blankenship for kicking duties, and even if they don’t supplant ‘Wildthang’, they will add depth to the depleted kicking corps for the Bulldogs.
