Georgia Loses to Ole Miss 72-71 in Hard-Fought Game

The Bulldogs were unable to defeat the Rebels Saturday in Oxford, Mississippi despite an energetic comeback in the second half.

Rayshaun Hammonds, who scored 16 points, got his team off to a steady start with back-to-back buckets putting Georgia on the board and giving them a 4-2 lead. Ole Miss regained the lead but two Hammond free-throws, a Tyree Crump 3-pointer and a dunk from E’Torrion Wilridge tied it back up 13-13. Georgia the regained the lead for the last time in the first half. In the first 10 minutes of the game, the score gap never exceeded five points.

After going into the locker room down 10 points (29-39), the Bulldogs came back to court ready to fight. They opened with a 8-0 run and eventually surpassed the Rebels and took the lead. Ole Miss took it back for good with three consecutive shots from Breein Tyree.

 

 

 

 

The teams stayed neck-in-neck until the end of the game. With 2:28 left in the game, Jordan Harris went on a 7-0 run followed by a 3-point shot from Rebel Devontae Schuler. Nicolas Claxton closed the game with a jumper in the paint.

Georgia raised their shooting percentage to .652 in this game but went back to their old ways committing 19 turnovers. Their inability to hold onto the ball gave Ole Miss the chance to score 19 points.

Georgia guard Jordan Harris finished with a career-high scoring performance for the third game in a row.  He racked up 15 points to beat his former record of 13.

 

 

 

 

Georgia returns home to Stegeman Coliseum on Thursday to take on Auburn at 9 p.m. on ESPNU.
