Amidst the fanfare and activities of Georgia’s homecoming game against Vanderbilt and then the subsequent agony of losing said homecoming contest 17-16 to the Commodores, there was a wee bit of good news on Saturday. The Bulldogs picked up a commitment for the class of 2017 from Jake Skole.

Who is Jake Skole you may ask?

He played varsity baseball and football at Blessed Trinity Catholic School out of Roswell, GA and chose to take up his bat to test his mettle in Major Leagues after graduating from high school in 2010. Skole was drafted in the first round of the MLB Draft by the Texas Rangers. Now, six years later, the 24 year old’s fervor for football has not waned and Skole chose to commit to Georgia over Florida State and Georgia Tech on Saturday morning, first reported by Rusty Mansell of 247Sports.com.

At 6 foot 2 and approximately 215 lbs, he will look to compete on the defensive side of the ball at either linebacker or safety. Jake played safety for the Titans in high school; so, it is a position that is familiar to him. He is set to enroll in January and will be a walk-on prospect; therefore, he will not count against the scholarship numbers for the University of Georgia in terms of the roster or for the signing class.
