Georgia’s men’s tennis program stakes claim to the top three attendance figures in collegiate tennis for the month of March, it was announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Thursday.
The Bulldogs, who have won 10-straight matches and are 9-0 at home this season, hold the top mark of 1,010 spectators who came out to see the team defeat No. 4 Ohio State on March 20. That number is also the highest single-match total in the nation during the 2015-16 campaign.
“This is a true testament to the loyalty and dedication of the best tennis fans in the nation,” head coach Manuel Diaz said. “The success this program has enjoyed for many years is not possible without the help of the most passionate fanbase in the country. My team and I want to say thank you to Bulldog Nation for all they have done this season, and I look forward to even larger crowds for our matches this weekend.”
In addition to the Ohio State match, Georgia holds the No. 2 and No. 3 positions in the March attendance race, thanks to the 658 fans who came to watch the Bulldogs take down Tennessee on March 25 and the 506 spectators who were on hand to witness Georgia defeat Alabama on March 6.
Georgia returns to the Dan Magill Tennis Complex for the final two regular season homes contests of the season. The Bulldogs host No. 14 Florida at 5 p.m. ET Friday, before welcoming No. 59 Auburn at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday. If Georgia wins both matches this weekend, the Bulldogs will claim at least a share of the 2016 SEC Regular Season Title — the 30th regular season championship in school history.
