Georgia continued its preparation for Tennessee on Tuesday as the offense worked in the indoor athletic facility and the defense practiced outside. I focused on the offense during the two media viewing periods we had today and here are my three takeaways.

Quarterbacks:

Jacob Eason is improving each time I see him. After taking minimum reps at practice last week, the sophomore quarterback seems to be taking more reps this week and with the second-team offense. He is still wearing a brace on his left knee, but Eason looked sharp and didn’t show any symptoms of pain in his knee. Eason was able to push off with his left foot and made nice throws while rolling out to the left. He threw the ball 25 yards while he rolled out to the left without any hesitation and it was crisp and on target.

Jake Fromm continued his work with the first team offense, and all of the throws I saw him make were accurate and sharp. His confidence is growing, and you can see it in his demeanor.

Both quarterbacks worked with the running backs during the first period with pitches and handoffs and took equal reps in preparation for Tennessee. The quarterback battle seems to be in full force, but still leaning towards Fromm as Eason continues to get healthy.

Offensive Line:

There was good news in regards to Solomon Kindley as he practiced with the second-team O-line. After he re-injured his ankle during the Mississippi State game his status was uncertain, however, the injury doesn’t seem to be as serious as it first appeared on Saturday as he didn’t have any noticeable limp. The first team offensive line looked as follows: (LT) Isaiah Wynn, (LG) Kendall Baker, (C) Lamont Gaillard, (RG) Dyshon Sims, and (RT) Andrew Thomas. As for the second-team, the lineup went: (LT) Isaiah Wilson, (LG) Justin Shaffer, (C) Sean Fogarty, (RG) Kindley, and (RT) Ben Cleveland.

Coach Sam Pittman continued to push his linemen and had choice words for one of them during a drill. He worked his line with the “chute” again to make sure they got the leverage on snaps. Leverage on snaps is key for a successful line, and Pittman pushes it by working with the chute. After they finished the first drill, the coach had them break into position groups and work on double teams and cross blocks for the remainder of the period I watched.

Wide Receivers:

Receivers coach James Coley vocalized even more than usual today during the two periods the media watched. As soon as the media got into the IAF, he got onto a wideout telling him, “You ain’t listening to [explicit word]! You only get one [explicit word] chance, so attack it!” Coley continued his warpath with another wideout telling him to get out of the way and that he was out of place. I don’t think he was just necessarily calling out these guys to be rude, but to challenge them. Smart mentions how intense practice is and will stay and, “There’ll be no ‘comfortable’.”

After the dress down Coley game them, the wideouts made sure to catch the balls, but there were a few dropped here and there during the various drills they ran. Coley and Smart are obviously pushing these guys as hard as they can to the next level and its showing.

Bits and Pieces:

The intensity was high in the IAF today and I expect it to be matched or exceeded in Wednesday’s practice. Smart is pushing the players to get better each day and expects it. Jacob Eason seems to be one of the players who is getting better health wise, and Fromm better on the field. The offense line worked on leverage today and the wideouts were challenged to take that next step. Georgia has one more day of full practice tomorrow as they continue to prep for Tennesse, who they will face on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
