Its been talked about all week that whoever can dominate the line of scrimmage and run the football wins this game. In fact, since 2006 the winner has had more rushing yards.

Let’s take a look at each teams backfield and who will be carrying the ball in two run-heavy offenses.

Georgia:

Elijah Holyfield is the leading rusher for the Dawgs (488) yards and is a madman with the ball in his hands. Its almost criminal that he hasn’t been given the ball more, but it has a lot to do with the fact that Georgia hasn’t played many close games. A breakout game is looming for the junior and Jacksonville would be a great place to do it. Georgia’s other workhorse D’Andre Swift has the most carries out of the backfield this year for Georgia (71) but is also looking for his first breakout game. The trend here that you’ll notice is that Georgia needs to get these two the ball more and you can almost guarantee this will be the game plan we see today. He is absolutely explosive and can make anyone miss when given space. He is also an elite receiving back so look out for him in the screen game.

Florida:

Jordan Scarlett and Lamical Perine quite literally share the load. Scarlett has (70) carries on the season to Perine’s (69). They both average 5.4 y.p.c, have three rushing touchdowns, and are similar in height and weight. Florida has a solid one-two punch with these backs, and they provide consistency in the offense bringing physicality, speed, and elusiveness. Perine is the younger brother of Samaje Perine a current running back for the Washington Redskins, so he’s already part of an NFL bloodline. If Georgia does not improve its tackling, these are the running backs that will shed arm tackles and punish you for suspect defense.
