Head Coach Kirby Smart addressed the media on Tuesday evening at Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall ahead of the first conference game against the Kentucky Wildcats.
It seems as though Smart has certainly implemented the word “physical” into his locker room when describing Kentucky. He mentioned that last week against South Carolina, the Wildcats ran the ball 18 consecutive times at one point, which he hasn’t seen “in a long time”. He also noted that over the past few years, it’s been one of if not the most physical games of the season for the program.
If Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops chooses a similar game plan this weekend, fans can expect a low-scoring slugfest like we’ve seen in the last few matchups in Lexington. With that being said, Kentucky might not be as successful on the ground as they were against the Gamecocks, as Georgia’s defensive front has only allowed an average of 81 rushing yards per game in the first two games. If Coach Smart and his staff can dial up a scheme to force Stoops to put the ball in the air, Kentucky could be playing catch-up all evening long.
This will be the first time that Georgia has travelled to Lexington in the month of September since the 1940s, which means that this physical battle will put wear-and-tear on Smart’s team earlier than usual. With four matchups against current top-ten teams awaiting, this will be a perfect evaluation game against an SEC opponent before heading into a bye week leading up to the much anticipated Alabama game.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30PM on ABC.
