The Georgia Football program got some great news Monday morning when USC transfer quarterback JT Daniels tweeted that he was granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA.
Daniels elected to transfer to UGA in May and arrived on campus for voluntary workouts in June. Even though Georgia added graduate transfer quarterback Jamie Newman back in January, the Bulldogs staff still went after the former No. 3 ranked pocket-passer in the 2018 class, behind Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and Ohio State’s Justin Fields.
The addition of Daniels, a redshirt sophomore with three years of eligibility left, gave UGA five scholarship quarterbacks entering the summer. Besides Newman, he joins Carson Beck, D’Wan Mathis and Stetson Bennett at the position.
Daniels is originally from Santa Ana, California and played at Mater Dei High School. He signed with USC in 2018 and played one full season before suffering an injury in the first game of his sophomore year. He was then replaced by backup Kedon Slovis and entered the NCAA transfer portal earlier this year.
Daniels threw for 2,672 yards and 14 touchdowns with 10 interceptions during his freshman season in 2018. The Trojans finished 5-7 that year, but in the final two games, Daniels completed 67 percent of his 85 passes for 686 yards and three scores against USC’s two biggest rivals, Notre Dame and UCLA.
Before his injury against Fresno State in the 2019 season opener, Daniels completed 25 of 34 passes for 215 yards with one touchdown and one interception. For his career, Daniels has completed 241 of 397 for 2,887 yards for 15 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
In high school, Daniels was initially rated as the nation’s No. 1 overall prospect in 2019 before reclassifying to the Class of 2018. He was the No. 4 player in that class.
