Georgia Softball Breaks Attendance Record, but Falls to Gators in Game Three

No.10 Georgia softball lost to No. 2 Florida in game three of the series. The Gators won 5-1. Georgia won the series 2-1 and broke the attendance record for Jack Turner Stadium. During Sunday’s game, there were 2,457 people in attendance. 

 

Georgia’s win streak ended at 25 games, tying the all-time program record. It’s the Bulldogs first loss this season since its loss to No.3 Oregon on opening day, Feb. 8th. The Bulldogs are 26-2 on the season, 5-1 in SEC play.

 

The Bulldogs were narrowly outhit 6-4 in the game. Kendall Burton had two hits on the day. Jessica Morgan recorded a hit and score the lone Bulldog run.

Kylie Bass suffered her first loss as her record goes to 9-1 on the season. She pitched all seven innings, allowing only one earned run and struck out five. Florida’s Aleshia Ocasio earned the complete-game win for the Gators and improved to 10-2 on the season.

 

Kayli Kvistad reached on a 2-out infield single in the top of the first following a couple quick outs recorded by Bass. Jordan Matthews hit a popup to right field that Burton lost in the sun. Burton dropped the ball and Matthews reached second and sent Kvistad home. Florida led 1-0 after the first.

 

The Gators second run of the day scored in the fifth inning. Alex Voss was on second, Amanda Lorenz grounded out to Febrey, pushing Voss to third. On the play, Febrey’s throw to third was slightly wide, which allowed Voss to score. Florida increased its lead to 5-0 in the top of the seventh. The first came on a base hit to right by Sophia Reynoso. Burton’s throw to the plate was right on but mishandled by Morgan as Voss snuck past her to score. Lorenz then hit a two-run home run to center, after going 0-3 on the day.

Georgia avoided the shutout in the bottom half of the seventh. Morgan doubled to right center with two down. Burton then singled to left field. The left fielder muffed the play, allowing Burton to move to second and Morgan scored. Georgia left Burton stranded after a ground to third ended the game.

 

The Bulldogs come back to Jack Turner to host in-state rival, Georgia Southern with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
