A Maeve McGuire solo home run in the fourth gave the Bulldogs just the momentum they needed to defeat Georgia Tech Wednesday night. Georgia beat the Yellow Jackets 7-2 after tallying a four-run sixth inning to beat the in-state rival.
The starting pitcher for the Bulldogs was Kylie Bass. She improved to 6-0 on the season after the win on Wednesday. Bass allowed just four hits and recorded a season-high seven strikeouts to keep Tech out of reach.
Georgia posted ten hits on the evening. Six batters recorded at least one hit during the game. Alysen Febrey went 3-for-3 with one RBI. Cortni Emanuel and Alyssa DiCarlo had two hits each.
Tech scored first with a bases-loaded passed ball to go up by one in the second. The Bulldogs answered by taking the lead at 2-1 in the third. Sydni Emanuel grabbed an RB hit while Lacey Sumerlin hit the sacrifice fly to left field. The Jackets scored their final run of the game in the top of the fourth courtesy of a bases-loaded walk by Bass.
After Bass and company had escaped the top of the fourth just giving up one run, McGuire took her shot on the first pitch during the bottom frame. She hit a solo home run to give the Bulldogs the 3-2 lead and all the momentum.
Georgia produced two quick innings in the fifth and sixth holding the Jackets scoreless. The Bulldogs then went on its four-run inning to get the W. DiCarlo hit a single to center to start things off in the sixth. Sumerlin and Brea Dickey followed with walks which loaded the bases for Kendall Burton. She got hit by a pitch to send DiCarlo home and earn the RBI. Febrey notched another single sending two to score. Jordan Doggett finished the inning with a RBI single to make it 7-2.
The Bulldogs return home on Friday as they host Mississippi State in a three-game conference series. Game one starts at 6 p.m.
