The No. 5 ranked Georgia Bulldogs defeated Missouri 7-2 on Sunday at Jack Turner Stadium to take the series 2-1. Georgia has now improved to 5-0 in SEC series this season and is the highest ranked team in the SEC.

Mary Wilson Avant got the start and the win pitching the entire game for the Bulldogs. She tied her career strikeout mark for six on the day and moved to (2-1) on the season.

“So proud of her,” head coach Lu-Harris Champer said. “I’m really proud of her and her maturity and the way she’s out there leading her team.”
 
 

 
 
Inconsistency at the plate kept Georgia from scoring early as they left several runners stranded. The first two runs came in the third inning on an Alysen Febrey single knocking in Justice Milz and Cortni Emanuel. Emmanuel’s single made it her 300th career making her only the third person in Georgia history to do this.

Missouri scored a single run in the fourth inning putting the score at 2-2. The game remained tied until the sixth inning when the Bulldogs exploded offensively scoring five runs.

Justice Milz singled to right scoring Jordan Doggett to initially break the lead. Then with bases loaded Alysen Febrey who finished with four RBI’s on the day singled to center field knocking in two more runs. She was then followed by a two-RBI Jessica Morgan single to extend the lead to 7-2 putting the game away.

“Its the SEC,” Harris-Champer said. “You gotta scrap and fight and find a way. The SEC is so good anyone can beat anyone on any given day.”

Georgia will return to action against Georgia Southern Wednesday at Jack Turner Stadium at 6 p.m.
