Georgia softball continues to steamroll competitors as it swept Bucknell on Wednesday. The Bulldogs run-ruled the Bison 8-0 in the sixth inning, then won 4-2 in game two. Georgia’s two wins mark No. 22 and 23 for the team and improve its win streak to 23.

In game one, Georgia outhit Bucknell 8-3. Six of those eight hits went for extra bases including four doubles and two homers. Alyssa DiCarlo and Mahlena O’Neal recorded two hits and drove in three runs each.

Starting pitcher, Lauren Mathis improved to 3-0 on the season. She pitched five shutout innings and struck out five batters. Both marks were season highs for the youngster. Mary Wilson Avant relieved Mathis and fanned two of the three batters she faced.

In the first inning, O’Neal knocked her fourth homer of the season bringing Justice Milz and Alysen Febrey home for a quick 3-0 lead. Jessica Morgan hit a double driving in Ciara Bryan home for the Bulldogs’ fourth run of the game. The second homer of the game was by DiCarlo. She hit a two-run dinger which gave Georgia the 6-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth.

Kendall Burton hit a double into left-center to start off the bottom of the sixth. She advanced to third on a groundout. Emanuel nailed a single down the right-field line, scoring Burton. She stole a base, and DiCarlo drove a double to right-center to plate the winning run.

Emanuel continued to pace the offense in the second game. She scattered three hits and drove in two runs.

Amanda Ablan earned her first win of the season from the mound as she improved to 1-1 on the season. She pitched a career-long five shutout innings, allowing only one hit, and tying a career-best five strikeouts. Kylie Bass relieved Ablan and earned her first save of the season. She pitched the seventh inning.

The two teams went scoreless in two and a half innings before Georgia put up the first points. In the bottom of the third, Emanuel hit her second career home run, a two-run shot, putting the Bulldogs up 2-0.

A leadoff walk, stolen base, and a passed ball put Burton on third in the fifth inning. Tiffany Railey drove in Burton with her first career hit and RBI, widening the lead to 3-0. A leadoff error by Febrey followed by a triple off the bat of Lauren Hadley to dead center field. The hit gave the Bisons their first run. Hadley scored on a single by pinch hitter Jazmyn Stokes slicing the lead to one. Georgia used a fielder’s choice and two Avant strikeouts to preserve the lead.

Febrey led off the bottom of the inning with a double to right then advanced on a flyout. Bryan fouled out down the right-field line, deep enough for Febrey to tag up and score giving the Bulldogs a 4-2 lead.

Bass entered in the seventh inning and fanned two of the four batters she faced.

Georgia continues SEC play this weekend when Florida comes to town. The two teams will face off in a three-game series beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
