Georgia Softball came home to host Missouri for a weekend series. The Bulldogs took game one on Friday evening in a back-and-forth battle. Georgia won 8-6 and improve to 34-4 on the season. 

The Bulldogs recorded its 50th homerun this season against Missouri. Justice Milz hit the dinger and Cortni Emanuel tied a season-high with three hits. Georgia had six, two-out RBI from Milz, Emanuel and  Alysen Febrey.

Mary Wilson Avant made her fourth start of the season. However, Kylie Bass came in after and tossed five and two-thirds innings. She improved to 12-1 this season in the circle.

Georgia took a 1-0 lead in the first after an RBI groundout from Alyssa DiCarlo scored Emanuel. Missouri answered the Bulldogs in the second and took the lead 2-1. Bass came into the game and pitched around a runner on second with only one out to avoid any increase in Missouri’s lead.

Febrey nailed a double into right-center field during the third to push Milz and DiCarlo home. Georgia reclaimed a one-run lead over Missouri, 3-2. The Bulldogs led off the fourth frame with two triples from Kendall Burton and Ciara Bryan who scored Burton. Georgia hit two triples against Delaware State on Mar. 12, 2017, which was the last time this happened in a game. Burton’s score was followed by a single from Emanuel that scored Jordan Doggett.

After three scoreless innings for Missouri, it responded with two, two-run home runs to take back the lead over Georgia, 6-5 in the top of the sixth. Georgia rallied in the sixth. Dogget and Emanuel on base and two outs, Milz took to the plate and hit a three-run dinger to capture the 8-6 lead.

Bass pitched a three up, three down inning in the seventh to secure game one for Georgia.

Georgia will be back at Jack Turner Stadium on Saturday for game two of the series against Missouri. Game time is set to begin at 6 p.m. The contest will air on ESPNU.
