Georgia Softball Outlasts Central Connecticut State Friday Night Winning 5-2

Georgia softball returned home Friday to face-off in the Bulldog Invitational. The weekend started with a doubleheader against UNC Wilmington and Central Connecticut State. The Bulldogs won both games respectively 7-3 and 5-2 notching two more wins on the season to bring their record to 16-3 overall.

Through seven innings, Mary Wilson Avant produced a personal-best ten strikeouts. She also surrendered two runs, one earned on just six hits. Georgia notched nine hits against Central Connecticut, with Kendall Burton leading Georgia’s bats. She went 2-for-3 during the game and recorded a RBI while sacrificing herself on a ground out at second base. Sydni Emanuel came up big going 2-for-2 and nailing a two-RBI single in the second giving Georgia a nice lead.
 
 
Central Connecticut State struck first scoring in the top of the second. The Bulldogs responded to the quick strike by CCSU in the bottom of the second and scored three runs. S. Emanual’s two-RBI single allowed Alysen Febrey and Justice Milz to come home and to make the score 3-1.

Lacey Sumerlin and Maeve McGuire hit a pair of base hits in the third, setting up Georgia to score its final two runs. Kendall Burton notched a RBI in the third sealing the win for Georgia. The game came down to Georgia’s dominant defense and holding CCSU to one more score in the fifth.
 
 
However, Georgia committed three errors, but it wasn’t enough to let CCSU back into the ballgame. Avant looked focused on the mound and it showed in her stats.

Georgia returns to action on Saturday for day two of the Bulldog Invitational. The team tackles another doubleheader rematching against CCSU before taking on Michigan State. Game one for the Bulldogs is schedule to start at 3:30 p.m.
