The Georgia Softball team extended their win streak to nine games as they defeated Louisiana-Monroe Friday night. Georgia held their 14th Annual Georgia Classic this weekend as play got underway Friday. They shutout Northern Kentucky on Friday afternoon 7-0 and then proceeded to beat Lousiana-Monroe 9-0.
In the second game of Friday’s doubleheader, after five innings with Bulldogs up 9-0, the umpire invoked the ‘mercy rule’ and called the game. Georgia extended their season record to 9-0. The ULM game marked the fourth shut-out of the season and the third-consecutive shut out for the Bulldogs.
Georgia’s pitching on the mound impressed as they held the Warhawks to only one hit. Two pitchers saw action in game two as Kylie Bass started and Mary Wilson Avant closed the game out. Bass posted a perfect three innings in the circle and four strike outs. As for Avant, she allowed only one hit and struck out two batters. The Bulldog’s defense didn’t allow anything past them as it took four innings just for the Warhawks to get on base.
The offense for Georgia dominated as Mahlena O’Neal led all batters. She went 2-for-3 and collected four RBIs on the night. She started off the scoring spree for Georgia as she smacked a three-RBI double during the first inning. Justice Milz notched a two-RBI double during the second and collected a total of three RBIs on the night. As for the rest of the offense, Alyssa DiCarlo and Lacey Sumerlin each notched a RBI sealing the deal.
Georgia faces off against Dayton at 12:30 p.m. followed by a rematch with ULM at 3 p.m. in another doubleheader on Saturday.
