Despite Georgia’s 11 hits and strong pitching by Brittany Gray, the Bulldogs couldn’t seal the deal and lost to Auburn 4-3 Sunday afternoon. The Tigers swept the weekend series in Athens for the first time in matchup history. Georgia leads the Tigers 16-11 in the overall series.
 
 

 
 
Gray started for the second time this weekend throwing 133 pitches in the final game. She struck out seven batters, walked one and gave up eight hits in the loss.
 
 
Sydni Emanuel was perfect at the plate with four hits and a RBI. She also posted a stolen base. Alysen Febrey also recorded a pair of hits. As a whole team, Georgia posted 11 hits, however, it wasn’t enough to defeat the Tigers. The Bulldogs left eight on base including the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the seventh.
 
 

 
 
Auburn got off to a quick start leading 3-0 after the first three innings. The Tigers recorded six hits in the three frames, including four for extra bases. Georgia answered the Tigers in the bottom of the third with an RBI double from Maeve McGuire sending Lacey Sumerlin home.
 
 

 
 
The Bulldogs tied it up in the bottom of the fourth as Tyra Holliday and Kendall Burton scored runs. Burton scored off a Febrey RBI double and Holliday off a single by Sydni Emanuel. Auburn scored its winning run in the top of the fifth. A triple from Kendall Veach set up Courtney Shea’s next at bat to send her home.
 
 

 
 
Georgia threatened in the bottom of the seventh as Cortni Emanuel reached on an Auburn error. Sydni Emanuel reached with a hit, but a strikeout, fielder’s choice and ground-out left the Bulldogs empty handed.
 
 
Leaving base runners stranded is what ultimately gave Georgia the loss on Sunday. The Bulldog’s young team showed its youth this weekend but also showed promise. Georgia heads to Gainesville next to face a top-five Flordia team. The series starts on Saturday and plays through Monday.
