Closing out the Holy City Showdown, the No. 10 Georgia softball team (23-3) cruised past Columbia (3-9) 10-1 in five innings on Sunday.
Kylie Bass (5-0) went the distance in the victory, giving up three hits while striking out two. The freshman sat down eight-consecutive batters before giving up a home run in the fourth.
Cortni Emanuel, Alex Hugo, Alyssa DiCarlo and Maeve McGuire each notched two hits apiece in the contest with DiCarlo and McGuire tabbing a pair of RBI.
Home runs from DiCarlo in the first and Iosefa in the third helped Georgia to a 7-0 advantage after three played. DiCarlo’s plated two after a Puailoa sacrifice bunt scored C. Emanuel. Adding a run in the second off a Lions’ error, Iosefa sent her fourth home run of the weekend over the left center fence to lead off the third. A RBI double for McGuire and another Lion miscue put up the final two runs of the frame.
Two more runs came in during the fourth after a stolen base from Hugo then two errors trying to catch her allowed her home while McGuire notched another RBI double. Columbia made it 9-1 in the bottom frame with a two-out home run from Taylor Troutt. C. Emanuel closed out the scoring in the fifth after rounding the bases on a Hugo double.
Georgia is back home for a midweek bout with Kennesaw State on Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network+/WatchESPN.
