LAST TIME OUT: HOLY CITY SHOWDOWN
Georgia went 4-1 in the Holy City Showdown last weekend, notching wins over Chattanooga, Charleston Southern, Michigan State and Columbia while falling in a close one to host team College of Charleston. The Bulldogs hit .401 over the five-game tournament, outscoring opponents 35-8. It was the last regular-season tournament for Georgia, as SEC play begins this coming weekend.
CORTNI MOVING IN ON HITTING RECORD
On a 21-game hitting streak, Cortni Emanuel is closing in on the school record for longest hitting streak, just one away from tying Megan Wiggins’ 22 set in 2010. Cortni is currently tied for second with Paige Wilson, as Wilson’s 21-game hitting streak spanned from April 2012 until February 2013. Cortni has had a hit in every game dating back to Stetson in February, as 12 of those games have consisted of two or more hits. Reaching base in every game this season, Cortni has only two games without a hit while she tied her career high with four hits against Charleston Southern.
MOOSE ONE OF NATION’S TOP RBI LEADERS
Kaylee Puailoa is proving to be one of the nation’s top RBI leaders, as she stands in second nationally with 41 RBI this season while leading the SEC. With six RBI in a pair of games so far, Puailoa–more lovingly known as Moose–has 160 in her career, moving her up to the top 10 of Georgia’s all-time records. She also leads the Bulldogs with 12 multi-RBI games.
IOSEFA GOES OFF IN LOWCOUNTRY
Tina Iosefa hit another level in Charleston, as her bat went off for a .643 average over the five games at College of Charleston. The California native hit four home runs, including two against Charleston Southern, the fourth time in her career to hit two home runs in a single game. Iosefa was perfect at the plate in two games, going 3-for-3 versus the Lady Bucs and 2-for-2 against Michigan State. The senior now has 40 home runs in her career, moving her up to ninth all-time in Georgia’s career records.
BASS CATCHING ON QUICKLY
Kylie Bass’ collegiate career is off to a solid start, holding a 0.57 ERA that is second in the nation. In each of her four starts, Bass earned the win, as she has two complete games under her belt. The Georgia product has given up one earned run in three games, two of those coming off solo home runs. She has given up just five hits twice this season while she also helped Georgia comeback over Boston College after throwing five perfect innings of relief.
