Georgia swimming and diving teams will have their final dual meet of the season against Emory on Saturday at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
[break] [break] Saturday’s meet will begin at noon and there is no cost for admission. Georgia’s 17 seniors will be recognized in a pre-meet ceremony at 11:35 a.m.
[break] [break] The Lady Bulldogs are the top-rated team in this week’s CSCAA rankings and are undefeated at 10-0. They have won a Georgia all-sports record 93 straight meets at home (a streak that began Nov. 8, 1995, against Emory no less). The Lady Bulldogs also will be seeking the 13th overall undefeated season in school history. The Lady Eagles have won five straight Division III national championships and are No. 1 this year at 7-0. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 2 with a 7-2 mark, while the Eagles are 3-2.
[break] [break] “For us, this meet is about the little things,” Georgia head coach Jack Bauerle said. “We need to focus on being sharp in our starts and our turns and all the things that will make us effective at the SECs (Feb. 17-21 at Auburn). We need to stay in race shape and we know we’ll have some fine races with Emory. They have a top-notch Division III program and do a great job year in and year out.”
[break] [break] Georgia’s seniors — Olivia Boggs, Lauren Harrington, Maddie Locus, Jordan Mattern, Amber McDermott, Anna Neumeister, Darcie O’Brien, Shannon O’Malley, Courtney Peters, Nicole Vernon, Bobby Chambless, Alec Cohen, Nicolas Fink, Jared Markham, Derek Onken, John Simmons and Conor Sweeney — will be participating in their final home dual meet. The Lady Bulldogs are 38-2-1 in their careers and have won the SEC title their previous three seasons and the last two NCAA championships, while the Bulldogs are 28-8 the last four years.
[break] [break] “Senior Day is a great day for those kids,” Bauerle said. “It’s our chance to thank them for all they’ve done – and they’ve done an awful lot. It’s hard to let them go because they’re so special and they’ve all left a mark on our program. This day is really bittersweet because you want to celebrate what they’ve done but you never want to see them leave. It’s a talented group, a tough group. They’ve been so successful, and we could not be prouder of them.”
