The Georgia swimming teams opened the 2015 portion of their schedule by sweeping South Carolina on Saturday at the USC Natatorium.

The No. 3 Bulldogs recorded a 150-103 decision, while the No. 2 Lady Bulldogs were 151-103 victors. Georgia, which had been idle since the UGA Fall Invitational Dec. 5-7, won every individual event and each relay on Saturday.

“We are real proud of both teams,” Senior Associate Head Coach Harvey Humphries said. “It’s a real tough time of year to swim fast because it’s been about a month since we raced last and we’ve been through exams and some extremely hard training. They’ve been working hard, so they were real tired coming into this one. They did a fantastic job of putting that aside and they raced hard in all the events up and down the line.”

Matias Koski and Ty Stewart won three races each to pace the Bulldogs. Koski claimed the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.25, the 100 freestyle in 44.85 and the 1,000 freestyle in 9:07.10. Stewart swept the 100 and 200 backstroke in 49.76 and 1:48.06, respectively, and the 100 butterfly in 49.60.

Gunnar Bentz was a double winner, claiming the 200 breaststroke in 2:00.52 and the 200 butterfly in 1:49.66. Other winners for the Bulldogs included Alec Cohen in the 200 freestyle (1:38.34); Chase Kalisz in the 500 freestyle (4:24.27); Nicolas Fink in the 100 breaststroke (55.28) and Jared Markham in the 200 individual medley (1:50.79).

The 200 medley relay of Taylor Dale, Fink, Stewart and Michael Trice won with a time of 1:30.78. Georgia took the 400 freestyle relay in 3:00.59 with Bentz, Fink, Trice and Koski.

Hali Flickinger posted three wins for the Lady Bulldogs. She claimed the 500 freestyle in 4:47.44, the 100 backstroke in 54.31 and the 200 individual medley in 2:00.83.

Chantal Van Landeghem was a double winner, as she took the 50 freestyle in 23.65 and the 100 freestyle in 51.16. Other winners for the Lady Bulldogs were Anna Kolanowski in the 200 freestyle (1:50.89); Amber McDermott in the 1,000 freestyle (9:57.55); Kylie Stewart in the 200 backstroke (1:59.31); Annie Zhu in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.90); Emily Cameron in the 200 breaststroke (2:16.26); Courtney Peters in the 100 butterfly (55.89); and Lauren Harrington in the 200 butterfly (1:59.88).

The 200 medley relay of Olivia Smoliga, Zhu, Harrington and Van Landeghem took first in 1:43.35. Stewart, Smoliga, Van Landeghem and Jordan Mattern touched first in 3:28.16 in the 400 freestyle relay.

Georgia will entertain Texas next Saturday at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
