Georgia tight end graduate transfer Eli Wolf (17) had a breakout day Saturday against Murray State and made a huge difference for his team in the second quarter.

As a senior graduate transfer, Wolf seems like he is ready to step up and fill in the role of former Bulldog Isaac Nauta. In the last two weeks, he has done just that and made the plays when the opportunities have become available.

“When your number is called, you’ve got to make the play,” said Wolf.

In Saturday’s victory, Wolf had four catches for 73 yards and all of those coming in the first half. In last weeks game against Vanderbilt, Wolf lined up at fullback and blocked two Commodores while Brian Herrien (35) carried the ball in the for a touchdown.

Wolf’s effort hasn’t gone unnoticed as head coach Kirby Smart has been impressed with his efforts thus far.

“He caught the ball when he had some opportunities, he made some plays and had some good runs after the catch,” Smart said. “I think he’s a talented player and a weapon for us.”

During fall camp, it looked like starting quarterback Jake Fromm (11) and Wolf seemed to have developed some type of relationship. During that period Fromm and Wolf worked a lot on their timing together.

“Wolf is somebody who has come into the program and really just worked his tail off the entire time he’s been here,” Fromm said Saturday at postgame interviews. “He’s put in a lot of work, he’s had a lot of catches in practice, and really it was just a matter of time before he came out and showed it on the field.”

Wolf knows that now is his time to shine, and is already starting to prepare for next week against Arkansas State. He also knows that there could always be another game, but will be ready to adjust if needed.

“You have an idea of a game plan, but you never know how it’s going to go or what defense they will run,” Wolf said. “I’m always ready to do whatever the team needs.”

Coming from Tennessee, Wolf has game experience which is something that Georgia lacks in the tight end room. Whether its lining up to block or catch passes downfield it seems like Wolf is ready for the road ahead.
