SEC Media Days 2017 is in the books and on Friday, the results of its annual preseason media poll were released with Georgia receiving 138 of the media’s 242 first place votes to be picked the favorite to win the SEC Eastern Division.

 
And if you go by the media’s voting, it looks like the East will be a battle with the Bulldogs’ rival, Florida, as the Gators received 92 ballads to be voted to finish second. Alabama was voted to finish first in the SEC West with a whopping 225 votes, and Auburn was voted to finish in second in the West with 13 votes.
 
 
As expected, Alabama was picked to be heavy favorites to take home the SEC Championship again with 217 points. Auburn was voted to come in second with 11 points, and Georgia third with six points.
 
 
Of course, the teams will settle all of this out on the gridiron this fall, and we will have to see how accurate the preseason voting was. The Bulldogs will open the season with three straight out of conference opponents beginning with the home opener versus Appalachian State on September 2. Georgia will open SEC play with Mississippi State on Saturday, September 23rd between at the hedges at Sanford Stadium. The Dogs will then play eight straight conference games with a bye week coming after playing Missouri on October 14th and before the annual Georgia-Florida game in Jacksonville, FL on October 28th.
 
 
The last time Georgia won the SEC East and made the trip to Atlanta, GA to play in the Conference Championship game was in 2012 when they faced Alabama in the Georgia Dome. Since 1990, when the SEC was split into two divisions, the Bulldogs have won the Eastern Division title seven times. UGA has only won two SEC championships, in 2002 and 2005, since the league was given permission from the NCAA to hold a game to determine the conference champion in 1992. The frequency of both division and conference championships for the Dogs is something fans are hopeful Head Coach Kirby Smart and his staff can change for the better.
