The No. 8/8 Georgia softball team is set to take on No. 5/5 Alabama in a top-10 showdown this weekend, March 13-15, at Jack Turner Stadium in Athens, Ga. The Bulldogs enter the weekend with an overall record of 23-3, including a 2-1 mark in Southeastern Conference play. Alabama is 18-4 on the year and 3-0 in the SEC.

Georgia’s bats have shown up in a big way in the last seven games. Entering the week Georgia had hit 11 home runs in 19 games. Since last Wednesday’s doubleheader against Wright State, the Bulldogs have recorded 11 home runs. Four players hit their first home run of the season last week.

Brittany Gray earned both starts against Savannah State on Tuesday, marking the first time that she has started consecutive games for the Bulldogs. She got both wins to run her record to 9-0. She allowed just one earned run in the games and now owns an ERA of just 0.93 She also recorded her first solo shutout in Georgia’s 8-0, five-inning win.

Cortni Emanuel has been a force on the base paths this season, going 33-36 this season. It is the most stolen bases by a Georgia player since 2007. The record for stolen bases in a season is 71, set twice by Nicole Barber in both 2002 and 2003. Emanuel also leads all NCAA Division I players with 33 stolen bases.

Savannah McHellon recorded just two hits in Georgia’s doubleheader against Savannah State on Tuesday. The hits were big ones, as they were the second and third career home runs for the freshman from Atlanta.

Georgia is set to make the quick trip to Atlanta, Ga., for a game vs. Georgia Tech on Wednesday, March 18 at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs return home next weekend, March 20-22, for a three-game SEC series vs. Arkansas.

Series Information
[su_spacer size=”20″] Georgia and Alabama are no strangers to one another on the diamond. Alabama leads the all-time series 16-36. The Bulldogs and Crimson Tide faced one another four times last season, with each team getting two wins. The last Georgia win over Alabama in the regular-season came in Tuscaloosa where Georgia defeated Alabama 10-2 in six innings, marking the first time that Alabama had been run-ruled at home since 2003. Georgia also eliminated Alabama from the SEC Tournament with a 5-3 win. The Bulldogs went on to win the SEC Tournament.
