The Gymdogs and Tigers are battling for a spot in the evening session of the SEC Championship next month in Duluth, Ga., and Auburn is currently fourth in the SEC with an RQS of 196.610, ahead of fifth-place Georgia’s 196.525. The SEC’s top four teams will compete in the evening session on March 21.
Georgia vs. Auburn History
This is the 80th meeting between Georgia and Auburn, with the Gymdogs holding a 76-3 all-time advantage, including a 27-2 edge in dual meets. UGA returns to Auburn for the second consecutive year, where it holds an 18-2 mark against the Tigers. Georgia finished on top in last year’s meet, 196.875-196.100, behind a 49.500 on bars, the Gymdogs’ highest bars score in a dual meet vs. Auburn.
Last Time Out
Georgia tied or set six career and seven season highs in its meet against Alabama last Friday night in Stegeman Coliseum. The Crimson Tide pulled away in the final rotation to win 197.675-196.825, but Georgia did record its highest scores of the season on vault and beam. Backed by career highs from Ashlyn Broussard, Brittany Rogers and Chelsea Davis of 9.975, 9.95 and 9.9, respectively, Georgia turned in a 49.550 on vault, its highest score on any event this season. Mary Beth Box also added a career-high 9.95 on beam to give the Gymdogs a 49.3 on the event.
Noteworthy
» Ashlyn Broussard has emerged as a key contributor for the Gymdogs in her sophomore campaign. She leads the team in event titles with six, four on vault and two on beam. Against Alabama, Broussard scored a career-high 9.975 on vault. She is now ranked No. 19 nationally on vault and tied for No. 11 on beam.
» Chelsea Davis and Brandie Jay have also earned spots in the rankings. Davis is tied for No. 13 on bars and Jay is eighth on vault.
» In Chelsea Davis’ first vault of the year, she tied her career-high with a 9.9 against Alabama. Despite being limited due to injures, she still holds three event titles.
» Georgia’s top three scores on vault have been in the last three meets, and the Gymdogs are ranked eighth on the event, their highest vault ranking of 2015.
» Seven different Georgia gymnasts have taken top honors on an event this season. Ashlyn Broussard leads the team with six event titles, two on beam and four on vault. Brandie Jay has four top finishes, while Chelsea Davis, Brittany Rogers and Mary Beth Box have claimed three event titles apiece. Kiera Brown has two, and Rachel Schick has placed first on bars once this season.
» Georgia has either already competed against or will compete later this season against six teams currently ranked in the top-seven. The Gymdogs faced current No. 6 Michigan, No. 3 Florida and No. 2 LSU in the month of January. Georgia battled No. 5 Alabama last weekend and will take on No. 7 Auburn Friday and No. 4 Utah on March 14.
Georgia jumped two spots in this week’s top-25 to a No. 9 national ranking and is also ranked in the top-10 on three events. The Gymdogs are eighth on vault, seventh on bars, No. 10 on beam and No. 17 on floor.Up Next
